The goals of Bibliomondialis are to promote and encourage the participation of delegates from developing countries in IFLA conferences, to increase participation in national and international library science seminars and to encourage and support research focusing on international library science issues.

To this end, Bibliomondialis is implementing bursary programs for research development and participation in events relating to IFLA.

Eligibility requirements:

In order to be eligible, each applicant must completely satisfy the following criteria and requirements:

hold a diploma from a university or a recognized national library science or information sciences institution, or any other equivalent or relevant diploma, and provide a certified copy of the diploma;

have at least two (2) years' and no more than four (4) years' professional experience in his or her country as a librarian, custodian, information scientist, library technician or documentation technician, or the equivalent, as evidenced by an official letter from his or her employer;

demonstrate and describe in writing in no more than three hundred (300) words his or her professional experience and his or her reasons or interest in this professional area and participation in 2008 WLIC;

include with the application a curriculum vitae of no more than three (3) pages in letter or A4 format, as well as two (2) letters of support or recommendation from persons in authority in a recognized institution that has no immediate hierarchical association with the candidate;

read, understand and speak French or English; hold a passport that is valid for at least six (6) months after his or her entry into Canada, for the 2008 conference, and have received an entry visa if required;

certify that he or she has received written assurance of a financial contribution, stating the value, from another person, business or institution for his or her participation in WLIC;

undertake to provide no later than two (2) months after the conference a written report summarizing his or her participation.

Schedule for 2008 registration

Registration period: October 2007 to January 2008
Application submission deadline: January 31, 2008
Application assessment procedure: February and March 2008
Announcement of recipients: April 2008
Deadline for registration or application submission for 2008: 31 January 2008.

Thomson Scientific Seeks Scholarship Applicants from Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific & Africa for Roger K. Summit Scholarship.

Thomson Scientific, part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and leading provider of information solutions to the worldwide research and business communities, today announced that it is seeking applicants from Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Africa for its annual Roger K. Summit International Scholarship.

The company will award a €5,000 scholarship to a student enrolled in an accredited library or information sciences course. The prize will be awarded at the 2007 Online Information Conference and Exhibition, to be held December 4-6, 2007, in London. The deadline for applicants is October 31, 2007.

Elsevier Foundation Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries

The Elsevier Foundation has announced a call for grant proposals under its “Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries” program. The Foundation will provide grants to libraries in the developing countries and their supporting organizations for programs to enhance libraries’ capacity in the fields of science, technology and medicine -- through library training and education; library infrastructure, technology or information services; and digitization and preservation of information. The Foundation especially encourages proposals that support partnerships between libraries in the developing countries and institutions in the developed countries.

Proposals must be submitted by Oct 1, 2007, and will be awarded at the end of the 2007 calendar year.

Elsevier Foundation New Scholars Program

The Elsevier Foundation has announced a call for grant proposals under its New Scholars Program, which will give priority to the efforts of the academic and research community to address the fundamental challenge of balancing childcare and family responsibilities with the demanding careers in science and technology. The program is focused on doctoral candidates and scientists in the first five years of their post-doctoral careers.

Grant proposals are welcome for programs that enable scientists to attend conferences, meetings, workshops and symposia that are critical to the development of a career in science, with a particular emphasis on programs that help with childcare and other family responsibilities when attending scientific gatherings.

IEEE ICDIM 2007

The Second International Conference on Digital Information Management ICDIM 2007 is sponsored by the Engineering Management Society of IEEE and in Cooperation with ACM SIGAPP.fr. IBM OmniFind Yahoo : a Free Enterprise Search Tool

Yahoo and IBM launched IBM OmniFind Yahoo : a Free Enterprise Search Tool, through which 50,000 documents of 200 fyle types can be indexed. It is a single configurable interface for internet and enterprise search, says IBM.

It is a challenge to Google Mini, which costs $9,000 to purchase.
